Crispy Garlic Salt & Pepper Tofu

You can substitute the Tofu with your preferred choice of protein Shrimp, Pork, or Chicken 🤗
25 mins to cook

If you don’t have Garlic Salt on hand, substitute it with 1 TBSP Garlic Powder, 1 Tbsp Sea Salt, & 1 Tsp Sugar.

Ingredients:

Tofu - 1 Firm (16 oz pack)

Green Scallions - 3 white parts chopped

Garlic - 3 cloves minced

Jalapeños - 2 large sliced

Cornstarch seasoning

Cornstarch - 1 cup

Garlic Salt - 2 Tbsp

White Pepper - 1 Tsp

Paprika - 1 Tsp

Mix together well, set aside

🔻 Optional for final step #4 below

Garlic Salt - 1 Tsp to sprinkle onto the Fried Tofu at the end of cooking

*Substitution for Garlic Salt: 1 Tsp Garlic Powder & 1 Tsp Sea Salt

Prep Tofu:

1. Drain & pat the Tofu thoroughly with a paper towel to remove excess water then cut to preferred rectangular or square size

2. In a medium size pan on medium-high heat add neutral oil about 1-2 cups to evenly fry all sides to ensure a crispy Tofu

3. While the oil is heating up, evenly coat each side of the Tofu with the Cornstarch seasoning mixture, tap off any excess Cornstarch then place onto a plate

4. Once the oil has reached a temp of 350F (use chopsticks to check for bubbles or a food thermometer) add the Tofu in batches, do not overcrowd the pot

5. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side or until a light golden brown

6. Remove the Tofu and place it on a baking tray with a cooling rack

Double frying:

1. Add the fried Tofu back in batches. Fry it for no more than a minute, remove it, and add it back to the tray.

2. At this point, you can taste-test the fried Tofu. If it’s seasoned enough for your preference you can skip #4 in the final step. No need to sprinkle additional Garlic Salt for extra seasoning

Final step:

1. Heat up a large pan on medium-high heat, add 2-3 tablespoons of neutral oil

2. Add Garlic and the white part of the Green Scallions, sauté for 30 seconds then add Jalapeños, and Sauté for another 30-45 seconds

3. Add in the fried Tofu

4. Light sprinkle of the Garlic Salt then stir well for 30 seconds

Remove from heat

Enjoy hot Jasmine Rice!
